(haha, most of you will protest at that but we'll leave the rest of the traditional sayings to our teachers and principal)
The first half of the year is over and here's the second half! What have you done in the first half?

Some of you have been very busy in the first half and we cannot guarantee that you'll be less busy this semester.
For the newer guides, have you all started working on your Bronze Award? Those who went for the camp, that would be a very good start for you, *BIG HINT*...
What about the sec2s and 3s? Silver, Gold Award? There are other proficiency badges that you can work for along the way but ultimately, you should be aiming for the Gold Award.. it's possible. By the way, the pacing is really very much up to you. No one's going to stop you from getting your Gold award even if you are still in sec2...and even if you are sec3, you can still get the Gold award...Proper time management and a lot of initiative will help you go a long way! Oh, yes, we can't forget-- ENTHUSIASM!

This new semester is when you all will be given increased workload from your teachers, school functions (fund-raising projects, FOUNDER'S DAY SERVICE--coming post) and the sec4s will be-- (sighs) moving on. There isn't a lot of time left so for those who have yet to finish up your modules, push a little harder!! ESPECIALLY those with a FEW modules left!! Finish what you have started!! =D

It's up to you to have the INITIATIVE to look for our Guiders when it comes to testwork...Fix appointments for testing, etcetc...

Never say die! Whatever you do, give it your best!

cheers,
your leaders

MG Guides Photo Album

Wow, there's been almost no movement in here for quite a long while..
how have you all been? This will be held on the second day of our Guides Camp (8/6/04) concurrently with our camp, and also at Camp Christine. We've also got our own 2 teams of 4 who will be taking part in it! =D Exciting, yes??

Because the school is under renovation, our usual source of twigs and punk from the school grounds is gone. So we need everyone's help to collect as much twigs and especially punk for the smooth running of the OCC.

For the information of those who don't know what punk is, they can be very thin DRIED twigs, very DRY leaves, the fibre-like materials of palm/coconut trees or wood shavings.
They are especially important in firelighting because they are the ones that catch fire more easily compared to the thicker twigs and wood.
Oh yes, when we say "DRIED", we really mean DRIED. Not those twigs that are still greenish-brown or bendable.. dry meaning that when you try to break the twig in half, it will have a dry "CRACK!" sound. =) so try breaking the twigs while you are collecting to test for the dryness yes? =D

So yes,
How YOU (yes you!)can help:

Go out to a park/garden/anywhere that has trees and pick up as much twigs/punks you can find (dried ones from the ground please, DO NOT PLUCK/CUT/TWIST/BREAK off anything from the LIVE tree/plant!!)

We hope that each one of you can collect at least one bundle of twigs, and a good amount of punk!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

PLEASE TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY DURING THESE DRY DAYS TO COLLECT THEM!

THANKS!

Your Leaders

national track and field championship

these 30 guides have been chosen to do yeoman's service at the national track and field championship..

so far i only have the date of the event : 20th july

1st company

1) Gina Chan (leader)
2) Amanda Sie
3) Stephanie Low
4) Felicia Chan
5) Denise Tan
6) April Ding
7) Vikki Loi
8) Valencia Chan
9) Samantha Gan
10) Yolanda Lai
11) Loke Shi Ying
12) Angelina Koh
13) Lauren Sim
14) Teo Mei Ping
15) Cheong Jia Hui

2nd Company
16) Sim yin Ling (leader)
17) Clara Tan
18) Ho Zhuan Yi
19) Serena Wong
20) Magdelene phua
21) Amanda Tang
22) Odelia Koh
23) Jacqueline Chye
24) Cheryl Anne
25) Chee Wai San
26) Adeline Loh
27) Stella Ong
28) Jacinth Low
29) Sim Yin Hui
30) Chessa lim

acsi gangshow

ok.. hi guys.. i guess you would know who are those who are going..

here's some reminders anyway..

venue: bus stop outside acsi
time: 6:30 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.
attire: full guide u. no need cap

here are some cheers and songs you should know.. try to practise them so that we can show that MG is enthu and great k?! Trust us, your attitude will rub off on your fellow campers.. so to make it a wonderful experience for all let’s work together and cooperate with each other so that everything will be smooth and easygoing for everyone! =D

Essentially, there are the basic things we prefer that you all familiarize yourselves with. Be it the terms and names of different aspects of the camp. We’ll expect that you have at least a rough idea of what will happen during YOUR camp so that we don’t have to explain so many things to you all at once and leave you all stunned with the overload of information.
Below are the things I’ll cover so as to help you a little more in your preparation for your 1st ever Guides Camp!

1. Pack list
2. Timetable
3. Setting up of camp
4. Meal/ Meal ring/ Elevenses
5. Duties
6. Kitchen Shelter/ Cooking
7. COH
8. Morning Exercise
9. Colours
10. Camp Inspection
11. Strike Camp

1.	Pack list
Basically, the pack list is there to tell you the essential things you need to bring to camp. If you choose to not bring anything that is in the under the “Personal” column, the consequences and inconveniences are yours to bear. Things under the “Optional” column, as we all know, ARE optional.

2.	Timetable
This has been distributed to all of you, so please go through it on your own and BRING it to the camp!! You won’t like being in a camp and feeling all blur about what’s next and what’s next after next.

3.	Setting up of camp
This involves TENT PITCHING, GADGET MAKING as well as setting up of the KITCHEN SHELTER and WASHING AREA. To make life a lot easier, look pages 150-183 of your Guides Handbook. Be familiar with the sequence and instructions. It’ll save you a lot of time (and that usually means less time spent in the hot sun).

4.	Meal/ Meal ring/ Elevenses
Meals are to be prepared by the cooks and served by the orderlies. A meal ring is a ring of plastic sheets (we call them Sit-Upons). Everyone sits in the meal ring at meal times and the etiquette is that no one (except the Orderlies) should step out of the meal ring during the meal and only until everyone is done with her meal, can the ring then be broken.
In case you already studied your timetable and wondered what Elevenses is, it is like a teabreak, at around eleven in the morning (no prizes for the right guess).

5.	Duties
Duties are assigned to every patrol and you will follow the Duty Roster which will be put up on the 1st day of camp. Please know your duties and carry them out responsibly! If you have any doubts in carrying them out, PLEASE ask! We’d be glad to teach.

6.	Kitchen Shelter/Cooking
A kitchen shelter is basically where all the cooking will be done (In the outdoors!!). and cooking will be done by the patrols on Cooks duty that day.
There are some notes regarding the kitchen shelter and cooking pinned on the notice board. Please check it out!

7.	COH
This is a meeting for the Patrol Leaders, Camp Commandant (CC), Assistant CC and camp helpers.

8.	Morning Exercise
This will be carried out be the patrols on Health duty. Work together to plan a simple stretching routine and workout. You can also carry out a short game e.g “Dog and Bone”, “Squirrel, Hunter, Fire, Earthquake” etcetc. It’s up to you guys!

9.	Colours
Colours is like a flag-raising/lowering ceremony where, the World Flag will be used. The patrols doing Wood will be in charge of this.
There should be colours every morning and evening. The flag may be hoisted or broken. It is usual to have all campers at morning and evening colours and all Guides will stand at attention as the flag is broken or lowered.

The colours is to be carried out with dignity and respect in a simple ceremony usually with the company standing in a horseshoe formation. Campers should be neat and tidy wearing shoes and not slippers.

In the evening, it is usual to have the flag lowered by the colour party alone, with a whistle blown so that everyone stands at attention when it is lowered.

10.	Camp Inspection
This time is when the campsite and YOUR tentage site will be inspected. You should maintain the cleanliness of the site and also take this time to adjust loose runners.

11.	Strike Camp
Striking camp involves packing up, returning and clearing camp stores, taking down gadgets, bringing down the kitchen shelter and also striking down the tents.

Well that is all for now!
